Welcome

Thank you for visiting our website on proposed plans for new homes and employment space on land off Burton Road, Kendal.

Story Homes is bringing forward plans to help address the local housing shortage, by delivering a mix of housing that reflects local needs, on land identified as a ‘Broad Location’ for growth within the South Lakeland Local Plan (2013).

Our plans will deliver up to 340 homes in a variety of styles and sizes, with 35% of the properties made available as affordable. This range of property types and sizes will be attractive to first-time buyers, growing families who need more space, as well as those looking to downsize.

Set within landscaped grounds and green open space, this high-quality and sustainable neighbourhood has been designed to respect local heritage assets and enhance local biodiversity.

We want to hear your views on our plans and help us shape the future of this site. To get the conversation going, we’ve launched this website to provide an overview of our plans and receive your feedback.

The site

Why Burton Road?

Nestled on the edge of the Lake District National Park, Kendal is a beautiful market town surrounded by a stunning rural landscape.

Given its unique position, space in Kendal is limited. As such, the town faces difficult challenges in delivering new homes and employment space.

The proposed site at Burton Road presents an opportunity to deliver an appropriate and respectful new neighbourhood, that both meets the demands of the housing crisis, but also respects the heritage of the local area.

Why here?

  • The site has been identified as a broader location for growth within the South Lakeland District Local Plan (2013), capable of meeting long term local housing and employment needs.
  • New homes would be within walking distance of key local amenities, including bus stops, a railways station, and shops.
  • A mix of new homes, including a variety of styles and sizes, increases the choices available for local people.
  • The site has been designed to respect and protect the Grade II listed Helme Lodge and its surrounding parkland estate.
